I see there are no posts here yet. I’ll get the party started. I did 4 partial bonys today and then my front desk informed me the dental insurance wants us to bill through medical first. We have never done this. Im assuming we need to find a diagnosis code but then can we use regular dental codes for the procedure? Thank you for any advice on this!

Yes. With some policies, the primary insurance for oral surgery is the medical, and then dental pick up what they don’t cover (hopefully). The key with billing medical is that you need to have the proper diagnosis and procedure codes. You may also need to submit an operative note. Dr. Chris Farrugia is a great resource for medical billing of dental procedures. His website is http://www.successfulmedicalbilling.com
